Young Moon began as the solo project of American songwriter Trevor
Montgomery, now based in Nelson. Over the past decade, Young Moon has
released music through respected indie labels Western Vinyl (J Tillman,
Dirty Projectors) and Orindal Records (Advance Base, Julia Byrne, Cass
McCombs), including albums like Navigated Like the Swan, Colt and the
beautiful 2023 release Triggered by Sunsets. Their style—described as
“Cloud Gaze”—blends ambient textures, slow-burning melodies, and
introspective lyrics.

Young Moon's first NZ release,the double E.P Paraverbal Orchids / Young
Moon Is a Broken Bone was released on Wellington's HomeAlone in 2025. Young
Moon has played two NZ tours, and 30+ shows since their genesis in
Aotearoa....including appearances at A Camp Low Hum, Nelson Arts Festival
and 20 Summer Festival.
