From Cyclone to Cyclone
The floorboards have started to be replaced in The Boathouse! The Boathouse Society and Nelson Consulting Engineers are conservatively re-using any old boards that are fit for purpose. Any new boards will come from Logs 2 Lumber. In 2014 Cyclone Ita caused serious damage when it hit the West Coast, knocking over 20,000 hectares of forest and damaging another 200,000. Legislation was passed to allow the recovery of this high value native timber and with the guidance of The Department of Conservation logs were removed ready to be milled. The Boathouse has been fortunate in being given access to hard beech to replace the hall flooring and will recycling as much as the current boards as safely possible. Currently Logs2Lumber in Wakefield are preparing this timber and liaising with You Build to have it onsite ready to go in the next week.
The recent progress has been very exciting and now plans are becoming clearer the speed is about to pick up. Watch this space for more updates.
