Double bass player Patrick Bleakley approached the NZSO principal cellist while still at school who said, ‘ok and this is what you can do to make it cheap for yourself’, and thus enrolled at Victoria University with a paper to do with classical music. He never went to a lecture but he got free cello lessons. He works live with The Troubles, Lucien Johnson, Bullfrog Rata, Oscar Laven and other Wellington based musicians. Bleakley played bass on Black Seed’s sax player Lucien Johnson’s Box of Birds CD and is bass on Rosie Langabeer’s Zirkus album. Bleakley’s daughter Louise Perzigian returned home with her American husband from working in San Francisco in business journalism and studies in Chinese medicine, the proud owner of a very special hand made banjo. For this Matariki gig she joins with her father and the songwriter vocalist and acoustic guitarist Warren Love. Love shot to the the forefront of NZ americana singer songwriters with his critically acclaimed NZ music awards nominated 2006 Warren Love Band album, featuring many well knowns and produced by the late Clinton Brown (Waratahs, Rockinghorse, Wayne Mason, Sharon O’Neill). Love was described by Radio New Zealand and Listener music critic as a storyteller whose songwriting and voice “stand up against the best” in the alt folk country genre.

The Boathouse will be open for dinner from 5-8pm before the show.
